European Women on Boards (EWoB) launched a groundbreaking cross-border cross-sectoral mentoring programme in Brussels on 4 March. Aiming at breaking into boardrooms across Europe, the premier European network of organisations promoting gender diversity in the boardroom have paired 20 mentors (C-suite executives) and 20 mentees from 9 European countries for an 11-month partnership aimed at getting more women into top decision-making positions.

Speaking from the Stanhope Hotel in Brussels, EWoB Co-Chairwoman and founding member Cécile Coune praised the participants, who represent diverse parts of the economy and who are committed to promoting gender equality and diversity in the boardroom. “EWoB brings added value with its vision of a dynamic European network of organisations who promote gender diversity in the boardroom. This is a pilot project that we hope will be sustainable in the future, providing a phenomenal talent pipeline of board ready candidates, who will be joining our talent pool, accessible to companies online ”.

Co-funded by the European Commission and supported by three key sponsors PwC Europe, Sodexo and Deutsche Bank, the project aims to create a pan-European female talent pool with impeccably high quality candidates with the potential to add significant value to diverse boards.

“Board diversity enhances board performance, more successful boards lead to more innovation and competitiveness for a more sustainable growth and prosperous society. Embracing diversity means incorporating the skills, talents and experience of an underrepresented part of society” stressed Marie-Ange Andrieux, Co-Chairwoman of EWoB.

Keynote speakers included Her Excellency Ingrid Schulerud, Ambassador of Norway to the Kingdom of Belgium, Ms Renate Nikolay, Head of Commissioner Jourova’s Cabinet and participants in the panel discussion were the Belgian Secretary of State for Equal Rights, Disabled Persons, Scientific Policy, Urban Policy and fighting Poverty Elke Sleurs, (N-VA), Austrian MEP Evelyn Regner (S&D Austria), mentors Gerry Brown (IoD UK), Andrea Teutenberg (VP Finance DE), Diversity Advisor in the Cabinet of Vice-President Georgieva, Thinan Jakob and Sandra Mori, EWoB Director, from Valore D (member of EWoB in Italy).
